Football season is here!  Which means jerseys, rivalries, and most importantly, TAILGATING!

Before you start digging into your traditional, greasy and sauce-covered recipes, give some of these tips a try for healthy, delicious versions of your tailgate favorites.

Tip #1 – Plain Greek Yogurt is a Must
Seriously.  This stuff doubles as multiple things for your recipes staples!  Use it to thicken a chili or stew, or use it as a sour cream substitute.  You’ll get all the tasty, creamy texture with fewer calories and more protein!

Tip #2 – Make Your Own Chips!
We LOVE chips.  Like, really love them.  But some of our favorites have one thing in common: a lot of grease!  Watch the video below and learn how to make your own Chili Lime Chips to be ready to dip in all your tailgate go-tos.  Not into chips?  Fresh Cut veggies are also a great chip substitute!

Tip #3 – Sweet Potatoes Aren’t Just for Holidays
Everyone loves a tasty french fry or baked potato for game day.  Instead of regular potatoes, while delicious, have a lot of starch, which turn into sugars in your body.  Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of vitamin A, vitamin C, and also are lower on the glycemic index making them a healthy and more flavorful substitute.

Tip #4 – Shredded Chicken Should Be Your Newest Go To
If you have a crock pot or large stew pot, making shredded chicken will allow you to make a multitude of tailgate favorites, all while adding some lean protein to your recipes!  Watch the video below and get your crock pot ready!

So, what are your tailgating go-tos?  Tell us in the comments!  And if you’re not into cooking (or just really good at putting things off til the last minute) visit our Deli today to get all your Grab n’ Go essentials!
